Above a single lot of Tall fescue was divided into equal parts.  One part was PENKOTED and the other was left uncoated.  The seed were then planted in the six planter boxes show above.  Performance under three different pythium fungus infections were observed:

• Pythium Level ONE: (Two boxes on far left) This level is often found in a stand of turfgrass that would rate as a moderate infestation.  Note the thicker stand of the PENKOTED seed on the right.

• Pythium Level FIVE: (Two boxes in the center).  This would be a heavy infestation.  Note the PENKOTED seed again on the right.

• Pythium Level EIGHT: (Two boxes on the far right). This is a laboratory experiment where the pythium levels would be several times greater than one would normally expect to find in a natural environment. Notice the increased stand survival due to the PENKOTED seed coating.

Pythium: A fungus found in soil that often attacks young grass seedlings and can severely damage an entire stand of new grass.
