Centipede grass plugs are a popular choice in hot, southern areas. If you prefer looking at your lawn, more than working on it, Centipede is an excellent choice due to its very low maintenance requirements. With its slow growth rate, Centipede requires minimal mowing. Plus its complex root system means Centipede is relatively drought resistant and is aggressive enough to compete with and overtake weeds. These low maintenance requirements make centipede grass a eco-friendly choice for lawns and other areas for grass.

Uses For Centipede Grass Plugs
Centipede grass plugs should be planted wherever a low maintenance, low growing turf is desired.
It can be used for commercial and home lawns.
Centipede has a medium to dark green color and medium texture.
Areas of Adaptation for Centipede Grass
Centipede grass plugs can be planted and will
grow well in zones 8 - 9, but is prone to winter "kill" or injury if planted above Atlanta, GA. (see the map here to the right). Click on the map for a larger image.
Soil, Climate And Fertility Requirements For Centipede
Centipede grass plugs will require little, if any fertilizer -- it actually likes infertile soils. Centipede grows well in hot southern climates with the exception of the Florida panhandle.
With a complex root system, centipede grass can handle drought conditions -- once established
-- and will choke out weeds and other grass over time. It prefers soils with a pH of lower than 6.5.
